In addition to the advanced X-ray sensor technology for automatic detection of explosives and narcotics Smiths Detection uses a Ion Mobility Spectrometry technology to develop a broad range of trace detection products – table top, hand-held and walk-through up to systems for constant monitoring of the building environment for threats of toxic chemicals.

These systems detect and analyze vapours and trace particles of Explosives, Narcotics, Chemical Warfare Agents and Toxic Industrial Chemicals on baggage or clothing of the inspected person.

Our trace detection equipment proves itself in a wide range of applications – in combination with our X-ray systems or stand-alone, for detection and analysis of different threats at airports, borders, critical infrastructure access control, military and special applications.
